WKRECC Crews Continue Restoration Efforts Following Severe Storms

(Mayfield, Ky.) August 20, 2026 – West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative (WKRECC) crews have worked throughout the night and continue their efforts today to assess and repair widespread damage caused by last night’s severe storms.

Additional crews from local municipals and cooperatives across the state are also assisting with the restoration efforts.

“Last night’s storm hit our service territory hard. Operations, dispatch and management teams immediately began assessing damage and assigning crews to restoration efforts,” said David Smart, President and CEO. “Our full restoration team has worked throughout the night and along with other crews, we will continue working until all power is restored.”

WKRECC reminds the public to stay at least 30 feet away from any downed power lines. Always assume downed lines are energized and dangerous.
